Once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you'll start having positive results.” ~ Willie Nelson
We are what we think and what we do. Positive thinking doesn't mean that you keep your head in the sand and ignore life's less pleasant situations. Positive thinking just means that you approach the unpleasantness in a more positive and productive way. You think the best is going to happen, not the worst.
Don’t forget – you are always in control. You may not be able to control situations and other people, but you have total control of your thoughts and actions. Reacting comes from habitual patterns. Take a moment. Take a breath. Choose how you ACT. Nothing is worth raising your blood pressure and jeopardizing your health. Let your spirit guide you. It will always take the high road, you’ll feel better and you’ll open yourself for the good things you want in your life.
Due to a health challenge, I did not drive a car for about 9 months. The first drive I was able to take, my daughter accompanied me. I had forgotten how negative and aggressive drivers can be. There was a merge from two lanes to one on our main thoroughfare. As I approached it, someone jockeyed to get ahead of me. I smiled and let them in. I looked at my daughter and told her that I did not want to get back into a negative mind set that would have me getting totally annoyed and upset. What to do?
We decided that if the person trying to cut us off actually knew us, they would never behave that way. So from then on, both my daughter and I (and now most of the people that know me!) smile and wave as if we know the person. Does it change the outcome of getting cut off? No. But it does make me smile. It does keep me from making it a big deal and just maybe – I like to think – it makes that person pause for just a split second thinking they do know me from somewhere and will possibly be a little more conscious the next time they are in that situation.
Make conscious positive choices to heal and lift your spirit. Do it for yourself. Start with small things and you’ll quickly notice you are happier more often!
